| Life cycle assessment (LCA) of pre-commercial materials & technology to inform R&D and scale-up | I lead life cycle assessment (LCA) for impact-aware R&D of emerging chemicals and technologies at UW's Washington Clean Energy Testbeds. My science-integrated approach draws on 10+ years in computational materials design, chemical synthesis, device prototyping and scale-up, connecting granular design choices to system-level impacts through thermodynamics and manufacturing realities. I also hold a joint appointment at the National Laboratory of the Rockies, was selected by DOE to serve on IEA PVPS Task 12, and serve on a SETAC-ACLCA working group on emerging-technology LCA.
We seek to join ARPA-E SCALEUP Ready teams as a funded LCA partner, helping emerging energy technologies advance toward commercial deployment. From pilot-scale design to manufacturing, we can for example benchmark against incumbents, evaluate environmental and supply-chain impacts under realistic scale-up scenarios, and identify opportunities to strengthen commercial differentiation. UW can participate as a subrecipient or fee-for-service provider, with no cost-share contribution anticipated. We can also support LCA content for full applications, technical milestones and commercialization pitches.
What sets us apart: ◆ Prospective LCA across TRLs 1–7, scaling from screening to detailed, ISO-aligned models as technologies mature ◆ Custom process and life cycle inventory (LCI) models for emerging technologies, materials and feedstocks absent from existing databases ◆ Hotspot, scenario and uncertainty analysis across energy, water, resources and supply chains to guide design and scale-up decisions ◆ Embedded at the open-access Testbeds, with no IP entanglement: iterative LCA alongside technology and process development ◆ Transparent, reproducible workflows using open-access data and shareable inventories
From insight to redesign: In a DOE-funded critical-minerals recovery project, our LCA traced >95% of an impact to an unexpected process step. Our findings directly informed a redesign, identifying a pathway to >3× lower emissions now advancing toward pilot scale. Results like these also strengthen partners' grant applications and investment cases.
Flexible scope and budgets: Our tiered approach starts with affordable screening or directional LCA, then expands to detailed, scale-up-informed analysis as technologies mature and project needs evolve.

| Thermal Energy Storage | Energy Storage Technology (EST) offers a thermal energy storage platform that can reduce CO₂e emissions by capturing heat that would otherwise be wasted, or by storing heat generated when electricity is lower-cost or lower-carbon, and delivering that energy later to industrial or building loads. The impact depends on the host application. As an illustrative reference case, EST’s feasibility study models a 3 MWhth commercial module delivering approximately 2.4 MWhth of useful heat per operating day over 240 days, or about 576 MWhth annually. If that useful heat displaced an 85%-efficient natural-gas boiler, the avoided direct combustion emissions would be approximately 120 metric tons of CO₂ per year. Actual impact would be calculated from the host site’s fuel source, operating schedule, efficiency, thermal losses and parasitic electricity use. The larger opportunity is replication. Modular systems deployed across manufacturing districts, data centers and other thermal-energy users could convert otherwise wasted or poorly timed energy into useful heat while reducing fossil-fuel consumption and peak energy demand. Energy Storage Technologies (EST) has received a license from Lehigh University for technology derived from $6M in DOE grants to develop a modular thermal battery platform that stores energy as heat and delivers it when a customer needs it. Rather than relying on a single storage architecture, EST can configure the system around the temperature, duration and operating requirements of the application. Depending on the use case, the solution may use thermosyphon-enhanced sensible heat storage, phase-change materials (PCM), or a combination of the two. This flexibility enables potential applications from approximately 30°C to 450°C, ranging from HVAC, hot water and data-center heat recovery to industrial process heat. EST’s thermosyphon technology has already been demonstrated in a 150 kWhth prototype using thermosyphons embedded in an engineered concrete matrix. Testing demonstrated the ability to charge, store and discharge useful thermal energy. With funds raised we shall demonstrate our commercial product. |

| | FGC (flexgrid.cloud) designs and deploys prefabricated, commercial-grade compute modules that place AI compute, inference, and storage close to end users and data sources, in dense urban settings that the hyperscalers have skipped.
Each unit is factory-built and rapidly deployable, sized for constrained or underutilized sites, such as, telecom exchanges, grid-edge, industrial parks, warehouses, commercial buildings etc., rather than in multi-hundred-megawatt greenfield campuses. Deployment takes weeks, not years, and scales unit by unit. We are finalizing the modular enclosure and power/cooling reference design, a repeatable electrical and thermal envelope that fixes footprint, power draw, and heat rejection per unit, so each new site is a known quantity rather than a bespoke engineering project.
A proprietary control plane federates every site into one logical cluster. North-south carries orchestration, scheduling, telemetry, and data sovereignty policy enforcement; east-west carries low-latency RDMA-class interconnect (RoCE v1), model and KV-cache replication, and locality-aware inference routing. Customers get one API, one namespace, and a single scheduling domain across the fleet.
What we hope to gain is exposure to ARPA-E-funded work in grid flexibility, distributed energy resources, power conversion, optoelectronics, and thermal management which form the core technologies we could integrate into our units. We hope to receive technical feedback on our modular design from DOE national labs, utilities, and investors who understand this intersection, and utility and grid-operator partners willing to pilot grid-edge compute.
We offer a near-term commercial deployment path. Our units are a repeatable, high-density platform where new power electronics, optical interconnect, and cooling technologies can be validated in the field, at real load, with a buyer sized to scale. |

| | With a direct background in Science and an ability to excel in multiple fields over many years. I specialize specifically in narrative systems thinking with a hybrid background spanning cryptographic problem‑solving, intelligence‑style analysis, and mythic‑technical storytelling. My work blends creative foresight with operational discipline, producing insights and frameworks that map directly onto real‑world complexity—particularly in environments where ambiguity, adversarial behavior, and long‑horizon strategy converge. He has developed and solved multi‑layer puzzle architectures modeled on intelligence tradecraft, including PK‑series cryptographic sets and CIA‑style challenge frameworks. These exercises sharpened his ability to reverse‑engineer hidden structures, identify signal within noise, and construct high‑fidelity models of adversarial systems—capabilities directly applicable to threat analysis, red‑team ideation, and scenario design.
As a speculative‑fiction writer, I build worlds the way analysts build operational environments: through causal mapping, behavioral modeling, and structured narrative logic. And stories function as simulations—testing how systems break, adapt, or evolve under pressure. This dual skillset allows me to translate complex technical or geopolitical concepts into clear, actionable narratives for decision‑makers.
Grahm’s work emphasizes disciplined curiosity, pattern recognition, and the ability to synthesize disparate data streams into coherent strategic insight. He is particularly effective in roles requiring creative intelligence, structured analysis, and high‑ambiguity problem solving, with a track record of producing frameworks that support mission‑focused teams operating in constrained, high‑stakes environments. |

| SCALEUP Ready — component supply and manufacturing scale-up partner | Correlated Magnetics Research, LLC (d/b/a Polymagnet) is a U.S. small-business manufacturer of programmable permanent magnets and the magnetizing equipment that makes them. Huntsville, AL and Austin, TX; 100+ issued U.S. patents; all magnetization performed on U.S. soil, no foreign ownership, control or influence.
We are registering as a component supplier and manufacturing scale-up partner. We are not proposing our own technology under this NOFO.
We write magnets as arrays of discrete coded field domains ("maxels"), so force-vs-distance, alignment, latching and keyed engagement are engineered, not inherent to the material. Against a conventional magnet of the same size and grade, our bench measurements show 2.7-3.4x attach force and 2.2-2.6x shear. Read as material efficiency: the same delivered force from substantially less rare earth. Flux concentration yields at least 4x the force density of the magnet material itself, and 20x or more when low-cost ferrite supplies the flux, while removing over 90% of conventional back-iron weight.
Where we fit a scale-up team: - Motors, generators, actuators - axial-flux and radial rotor magnetics, field shaping for efficiency and thermal management, rare-earth reduction at constant torque. - Non-contact torque and shear coupling across a sealed barrier - magnetic gears and hermetic drives with no contact, wear, lubrication or particulates. We measured 19.5 N/cm2 shear stress and demonstrated +40% shear and +200-500% coupling torque density under a U.S. Navy program. - Zero-power latching, passive vibration isolation, switchable holding, magnetic position sensing. - Post-installation magnetization - magnetizing the part after assembly, removing strong-magnet handling from the production line.
Manufacturing: we design and build our own magnetizing equipment and already operate machines at partner and customer sites, so a design moves from prototype to production without re-tooling around a third party. We also run an in-house characterization lab: field scanning at 0.1 mm resolution and real-world parallel-aligned pull testing, not idealized datasheet figures.
Federal past performance: NASA Armstrong, patterned SmCo magnets for a cryogenic fluid coupler, validated -180 to +140 C with five of five commanded in-flight releases ($808K, sole source); U.S. Navy/ONR SBIR Phase II, magnetic torque transfer ($748K).

Power Generation: Renewable
| | I am a faculty member at Loyola University Chicago and lead the Michaud Energy Policy Research Group (MEPRG) within the School of Environmental Sustainability. My research focuses on the policy, planning, economic, and workforce implications of renewable and advanced energy deployment, with a particular expertise in solar and wind energy. While much of our work is centered in Chicago and the Midwest, we maintain collaborations and projects across the US and internationally.
Our group has extensive experience conducting economic impact analyses and workforce-related assessments for large-scale solar and other renewable energy developments nationwide. This includes evaluating job creation, regional supply chain effects, tax revenue impacts, local economic spillovers, and broader community and policy implications associated with clean energy investments. We have worked with utilities, nonprofit organizations, economic development entities, and public agencies on applied research projects related to the energy transition.
We have completed funded projects for organizations including American Electric Power (AEP), Dayton Power & Light, Chambers for Innovation and Clean Energy, Solar United Neighbors, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), and several other regional development organizations. Additional applied research projects have been supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Economic Development Administration, and other federal and state agencies.
As a DOE teaming partner, I am particularly interested in collaborations focused on clean energy workforce development, regional economic analysis, energy planning, and the economic impacts of renewable and advanced energy technologies. Our group brings capabilities in mixed-methods policy research, stakeholder engagement, economic impact modeling, survey research, and program evaluation. |

Other Energy Technologies
| | BW&CO Consulting helps emerging technology companies secure and execute non-dilutive funding from federal agencies, state programs, foundations, and strategic public-sector partners. BW&CO supports clients across the full funding lifecycle, including opportunity identification, funding strategy, proposal development, stakeholder outreach, submission support, and post-award positioning.
BW&CO brings a systematic, data-informed approach. Rather than relying only on individual consultant experience, BW&CO applies lessons learned from 3,000+ funded proposals representing $3B+ in awards. This gives clients pattern recognition across agencies, technical domains, review criteria, and award pathways.
Services include identifying and prioritizing funding opportunities; proposal writing, review, and editing; technical and commercialization positioning; budget and milestone support; stakeholder outreach strategy; and monitoring across funding sources.
Key Differentiators
1. Unmatched Funding Experience BW&CO applies lessons learned from 3,000+ funded proposals and $3B+ awarded to every engagement. While traditional consultants often rely on limited individual experience, BW&CO brings insight from thousands of successful funding efforts. One client with former senior defense leaders relies on BW&CO because the firm provides funding intelligence and competitive positioning they cannot replicate.
2. Front Door + Back Door Approach Traditional consultants often focus only on the published solicitation. BW&CO also analyzes underlying funding dynamics, including agency priorities, stakeholder interests, direct outreach opportunities, and non-obvious pathways to award. This helped one client uncover a non-public fast-track pathway.
3. Broad Opportunity Coverage Many firms focus narrowly on one funding stream. BW&CO monitors hundreds of opportunities daily and identifies pathways across agencies, programs, and strategic partners. This helped one client find an opportunity they did not know existed, leading to their first federal defense contract. |

Power Generation: Renewable
| | - Duke Alloh is the inventor of the Highway Undercrossing and Tunnel Micro-Wind Energy System (HUTMWES) — the first micro-wind turbine technology designed to harvest vehicle-induced airflow from enclosed transportation corridors including highway tunnels, freeway undercrossings, rail tunnels, and airport taxiway passages.
BACKGROUND: MBA, BS Geology. USPTO inventor with pending patent applications. STEM educator. Creator of the Highway Infrastructure Revenue Program (HIRP), a non-tax revenue mechanism for infrastructure-generated energy.
INTERESTS: Seeking partners to advance HUTMWES from concept (TRL 1-3) through validated prototype (TRL 5-7). The project targets an untapped resource: sustained winds generated by vehicles in 545+ U.S. highway tunnels and tens of thousands of undercrossings that consume an estimated 2-5 TWh/yr from the grid while wasting continuous kinetic energy. HUTMWES captures that energy via proprietary vertical-axis wind turbine technology with significant modeled efficiency gains over conventional small-wind systems, non-invasive modular mounting requiring no permanent structural modification, and traffic-responsive energy optimization. Four deployment variants address urban, rural, rail, and airport corridors.
CAPABILITIES: \- Proprietary IP portfolio with patent-pending technology across multiple systems \- System architecture and operations concept across all four deployment variants \- 10-year TRL 1-9 commercialization roadmap with phased funding strategy \- Regulatory engagement framework for DOT/FHWA/FTA approvals \- Energy equity strategy aligned with Justice40 and STEM workforce development
PARTNERS SOUGHT: \- Aerodynamics/CFD researchers for wind tunnel testing and computational modeling \- VAWT engineers for blade optimization, prototype fabrication, power electronics \- National labs (NREL, Sandia, PNNL, Argonne) for validation and grid integration \- University groups in fluid dynamics, control systems, AI, materials science \- State DOTs and transit authorities for pilot site access \- Manufacturing partners for modular turbine production \- Utility partners for interconnection and energy purchase agreements
IMPACT: HUTMWES addresses all three ARPA-E missions — reducing imports, reducing emissions, improving efficiency — by converting wasted vehicle-induced wind into distributed renewable electricity. Deployment of 5,000+ installations could generate 150-500MW, creating a new energy category: |
